Green Initiatives

Woodstock Inn & Resort has implemented the following best practices to lessen our footprint on our changing environment.

Environmental Best Practices:

  • The Woodstock Inn & Resort and The Woodstock Foundation are in ownership of many acres of land that will remain undeveloped keeping with the vision of Laurance and Mary Rockefeller to protect the natural beauty and environment in and around Woodstock.
  • Laurance & Mary Rockefeller donated the 550 acres of land that was their summer home to the Federal government which is now the only National Park in the state of Vermont. The Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park.
  • The Woodstock Inn & Resort was the first company in Vermont to approach the state regarding the standards for building a facility dedicated to pesticides, fertilizers etc.
  • Replaced The Inn chillers in 2007 gaining efficiencies in the heating of the building
  • Replacing The Inn boilers in 2008 with more efficient boilers and will gain efficiencies in the heating of the water.
  • Replaced snow making pipe at Suicide Six in 2005/06 and received rebate from Efficiency Vermont. Reduced overall electrical usage by replacing this pipe.
  • Large scale grass clipping compost program through our grounds department.
  • Regular and systematic cycling of all of our gas powered landscape equipment - This insures we are operating efficient and mechanically sound machinery. Have moved from 2 cycle engines to 4 cycle engines where possible.
  • Waste Oil Recycling Program through our Grounds, Resort Maintenance and Golf Course Maintenance Departments.
  • Woodstock Golf Course Agronomy:
    a. 80% of the fertilizers we use are Organic.
    b. Strict adherence to the Vermont State Pesticide Management Plan
    c. 12 of our greens are within the 50 foot buffer zone and receive no greens pesticides or aerial tree pesticides
  • All Resort Computer Equipment is sent to a recycling facility.
  • A Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb replacement program is in progress for all Public Spaces. Goal is to review entire Resort over the next 12 months for CFL replacement opportunities.
  • All guest room plastic is recycled.
  • All white paper, magazines and newspapers are recycled
  • All glass bottles are separated by color and all kitchen plastics are recycled
  • Guest room, terry cloth conservation program in place.
  • Guest Room Soap amenities will be all Natural and/or Organic by May1st of 2008
  • In all Resort Maintenance areas, all hazardous materials are recycled through the proper hazardous material recycling facilities in the area.
  • Billings Farm & Museum has a manure recycling program in place.
  • Dish Machine Green Products - We utilize all green products for our dish and glassware cleaning once
  • Kitchen Deep Fat Fryer grease is recycled for Bio-Diesel with
