August in Vermont is a pastime to share for generations
Over the years we have enjoyed hosting so many families that return annually to reap the benefits of a cool mountain summer. August is America’s vacation month; a time to reflect on the joys of life, family, and pure relaxation and Woodstock, Vermont is a place you can do just that.
Our resort team has created many exciting offerings to give each of our guests something to cherish. This year especially, the gardening and culinary programming at our Kelly Way Gardens has been so popular that we have started to add more activities. To sign up for Master Gardener Ben Pauly’s & Executive Chef Rhys Lewis’s Garden Tour & Tastings Series is a must, an activity you should not miss.
As usual, the golf course has been in amazing condition this year and our Director of Golf and his assistants offer lessons for the whole family and any ability. They make learning about golf and improving your swing seem so simple. Our forward tees have allowed any level to shorten the game or take away course intimidation.
Are you ever looking for those unique experiences? We have two amazing opportunities in store. Our Orvis Fly-Fishing program is a great way to get the family together for one activity. Our guides will take you to the Meccawee Club to learn the basics while enjoying this beautiful reserve with an 11 acre pond. And, to add to the family fun or for the adventure sport enthusiasts, Elemental Bike Park has officially opened at our Suicide Six Ski Area. We will take you on a tour with the video below.
Garden Tour & Tastings
The taste palate is a beautiful sense and we are taking full advantage to satisfy your tastes while sharing amazing talent. And we keep it relevant to what the garden delivers. Our Garden Tour & Tasting Series includes “The Beauty of the Basil”, with a taste of a Vermont Turkey Basil Slider or “Banking with Swiss Chard” where you will try ‘Going Bananas’ Swiss Chard Ice Cream. Executive Chef Rhys Lewis and Master Gardener Benjamin Pauly will tour the garden with you and put on a display of horticultural knowledge and cooking skills that are unforgettable.
Also, join Benjamin for his engaging complimentary classes such as "Its Tomato Time", "How to Make a Great Garden Smoothie", and "Tasty Tisane".
A Wellness Tip from our Spa Pros
Our Nutrition Consultant Spencer Fairbairn shares this tip: Eating local not only supports your local farmers, but is healthier for you too! Fruits and vegetables farmed with organic and natural methods that work to put nutrients back into the soil and do not use chemicals to control pests and disease are higher in vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients than conventionally farmed produce which may come from depleted soil.
Phytonutrients, or phytochemicals, are what plants produce to defend themselves from things like insects and disease. When we eat them in brightly colored fruits and vegetables these phytonutrients work in many ways to keep us healthy. Eating a rainbow of organic and naturally grown fruits and vegetables from local farms will ensure that you are not only getting the most nutritious, but the freshest and most delicious produce summer has to offer!
