Snowy History & New Traditions
Winter traditions in Woodstock, Vermont combine the very best of the snowy season with the warmth of wood-burning fires and friendly hospitality. Cold mornings are met with hot cups of Vermont-made coffee, organic eggs with local cheddar cheese, and pastries fresh from the oven: the perfect fuel for enjoying snowy trails at the nearby mountains.
Woodstock has a rich ski history, dating back to 1910 when the Inn opened the town’s first winter sports center on Mt. Peg for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding. In 1934, the community embraced one of (if not the) first ski tow in America located on a nearby hill. Not long after, in 1936, our historic Suicide 6 Ski Area opened with its own rope tow on a hill just down the road! Snowsports have been a winter staple in Woodstock for over a century and we are glad to carry on the traditions, adding modern luxuries and Vermont comfort for your family.
"Learn-To" Have Winter Fun
Vermonters don’t let cold winter days keep them from enjoying the fresh air and the snowy mountains that surround them – and we hope you won’t either. Learning a new way to get out and embrace the winter season brings fun and a sense of accomplishment, no matter what age!
- Suicide 6 Ski & Ride School offers private and semi-private lessons with a great variety of terrain. The mountain is made for learning and our instructors get incredible joy from teaching the sports they love to others.
- The Woodstock Nordic Center loves to get newbies on skis and offers quick 20-minute clinics to learn the basics, or longer hourly lessons so you can tackle more terrain.
- If you want an easy introduction to snowsports, try snowshoeing! Winter hiking with snowshoes helps grip the trails and won't sink into deep snow. And if you’re a biker, fatbiking is a fun winter alternative!
