December Delights
The Woodstock Village has donned her most elegant dress of the year. This snowy ensemble sparks twinkling lights through the village streets, garland around each door, and holiday cheer all through town. Inside the Inn, our holiday elves have been busy at work decking the halls and building a life-size gingerbread house in the lobby in time for all the holiday festivities. Outside, winter snowsports are preparing for the season with snowmaking in full force at our alpine ski area! From snowy adventures and boutique shopping during the day to hot cocoa by the fire and family movie nights, December in Woodstock has excitement and enjoyment in store!
Holiday Cheer all through Town
Our quaint town puts on holiday displays with Christmas cheer that would rival the North Pole! Twinkling lights on every tree, holly and evergreen boughs on doors all through the village, and holiday wishes from everyone you pass. At the Inn, more than 1,000 garlands with white lights have been draped along the halls, 25 wreaths hung, multiple Christmas trees decorated with homemade ornaments, and a super-sized gingerbread house made by our own bakeshop. The annual kick-off of the holidays begins with Woodstock’s Wassail Weekend and from Billings Farm & Museum to Pentangle Arts, the entire village takes part in the festivities and continues to celebrate until the New Year!
Winter Magic
We don’t mean Santa Clause fitting down chimneys and reindeer that can fly; our Suicide 6 Ski Area and Woodstock Nordic Center make plenty of winter magic all their own!
- With a snap of Wallace “Bunny” Bertram’s finger, the first rope tow on the hill we now know as Suicide 6 opened on Christmas Day 1936, beginning generations of skiers and riders in Woodstock.
- Snowmaking! Our mountain team quite literally coats the ski area in snow that they summon through the blowers. Overnight it can go from a grassy hill to a snowy slope – now that’s true winter magic!
- Sharing the joy of skiing and riding. Our snowsports instructors always have a twinkle in their eye while teaching the ways of winter fun.
- Grooming the sometimes-crunchy snow to fresh velvety corduroy. Our Nordic and Alpine grooming crews transform less-than-ideal conditions to perfect terrain for gliding.
Evenings with Film
It’s the 12th year of the Woodstock Vermont Film Series, curated by local Vermont filmmaker, Jay Craven and put on by Billings Farm & Museum. The 10 films dive into many subjects, like animals, harrowing rescues, social activism, and more. They feature interviews, real footage, and true stories that need to be shared across the globe. We are proud to be a sponsor of the film series and encourage guests to plan a movie night in the Billings Theater! Season tickets and individual film passes are available online.
