Start of Summer

June is here and summer is surely making an entrance! In Woodstock, Vermont we're enjoying warm days that feel like it’s already peak season and cool mornings that remind us that it’s still springtime – at least for a few more weeks. Gardens are planted and everyone is spending as much time outside as they can with activities like golf and mountain biking, or just taking time to relax on the lawn. Chef’s plates have traded the over-winter ingredients like squash for the season’s first pick of fresh asparagus, and crafted cocktails have swapped from warming whiskeys to refreshing martinis. So, let’s raise a glass to the start of summer and everything that is still to come!

Hot Spots to Cool Off

On a sunny day, jumping into the water is the best way to beat the heat and have fun! There are lots of places in and around Woodstock, Vermont to swim, wade, or relax by the water. Here are a few of our favorites!

  • Poolside right at the Inn. This oasis has new lounge furniture, shade provided by trees and umbrellas, and clear saltwater to float in.
  • The Ottauquechee River flows through town offering wading and some deeper swimming holes. Spots like the Woodstock History Center, Little Theater, and the White Cottage give access to the water. Ask our Activity Center team to tell you the best spot for your family!
  • For an incredible day by the water, take the short drive to the Quechee Gorge. An easy 10-minute walk down a large gravel path opens to a rocky landing with deep crevasses for jumping and swimming on one side, and shallow sandy pools on the other. Bring a picnic, you’ll want to stay all day!
Mansion

Legendary Nature

We are lucky to have access to two of the region’s most cherished and historic outdoor areas. Just steps from the Inn, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is Vermont’s only national park! Miles of pathways and trails showcase decades-old hemlock trees and beautiful ecosystems, while the historic Queen Anne style Mansion hosts property tours and beautiful gardens to wander.

Right across the street, the beloved Billings Farm & Museum offers hands-on learning, visits with cows and other farm animals, and endless education about the history of Vermont farming. You can stroll through the barns and pet the award-winning dairy herd, walk the pastures, and explore the growing gardens, including the magical Sunflower House (August-September).
